The Cry

Dive into my exploration of sound and its emotional resonance in this captivating project. Throughout this semester, I delved into the intriguing world of sound collaging and sampling, venturing beyond the familiar confines of traditional music composition. 

With a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of musical expression, I embarked on a quest to create abstract-sounding music that transcends genre conventions. Straying from predictable musical trajectories, I sought to evoke mystery and intrigue by layering diverse sounds, each imbued with its own unique emotion and texture. 

Drawing parallels between music production and visual art, I discovered the art of sonic collage, where disparate elements merge to form a cohesive narrative.  

Through meticulous layering and manipulation of sound samples, I explored the interplay of emotions, from joyous laughter to haunting cries, inviting listeners to embark on a journey of their own interpretation. 

Central to my creative process were unconventional sound sources, such as recordings of Oprah's voice echoing through an underpass in Auckland and the eerie loop of an old record player's final groove, reminiscent of a baby's heartbeat. These evocative sounds served as the building blocks of my compositions, weaving together a tapestry of emotions and narratives. 

Utilizing tools like Audacity and Premiere, I experimented with effects and techniques to manipulate and sculpt sound to my vision. The ability to reverse, distort, and layer audio proved invaluable in crafting immersive sonic experiences that challenge traditional notions of music composition. 

Through this project, I not only explored the depths of human emotion through sound but also discovered the boundless creative possibilities inherent in abstract music creation.
