Place

Explore the sensation of being out of place in society through experiential role-playing, examining reactions and social dynamics.

Our project delves into the visceral experience of societal displacement, inspired by the juxtaposition of Western and traditional cultures. Through immersive role-playing, we aim to embody the emotions and challenges of being outcasts, shedding light on the intricate interplay between social rank, culture, and individual identity.

At the heart of our experiment lies the bold decision to immerse ourselves in the persona of the homeless, donning attire that symbolizes societal rejection. By traversing various locations, we seek to investigate whether geographical context influences perceptions of social belonging.

In a subsequent phase, we plan to adopt a contrasting guise, embodying an air of affluence in business attire. This comparative exploration aims to uncover societal biases and prejudices, illuminating the stark disparities in treatment based on external appearances.

Our investigation is driven by a multifaceted inquiry into the significance of social rank and cultural norms in shaping societal constructs. Drawing insights from the works of Arnold Mindell, we confront the intoxicating allure of rank and its impact on interpersonal dynamics, fostering introspection into our own experiences of displacement within hierarchical structures.

Guided by Richard Bell's provocative artwork, we confront the subtle nuances of racial hierarchy and systemic inequality, expanding our understanding of the complexities inherent within societal structures. Mentorship from Richard Pamatatau provides invaluable insight into the hidden dimensions of rank dynamics, revealing underlying tensions and disparities within our own cultural context.

Through a blend of aesthetic, academic, and technological approaches, our project seeks to provoke critical discourse on the pervasive influence of social rank and cultural values. By documenting our experiential journey and reflecting on personal insights, we aim to challenge prevailing paradigms and foster a deeper understanding of the human condition amidst societal constructs.

Ultimately, our project serves as a testament to the power of experiential learning in unraveling the complexities of societal belonging and displacement. Through empathy and introspection, we endeavor to amplify marginalized voices and catalyze meaningful social change
